Caring sister sheds locks after brother diagnosed

A teenager whose younger brother is currently being treated for leukaemia will be having her waist-length hair cut to make wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer.alt

Bryony Booth is also raising money for the Ronald McDonald Charities because her family have been able to use one of the rooms in a house provided by the charity so they have somewhere to stay while he has been in hospital.

A story on the Haslingden High School student's plans was used by the Lancashire Telegraph and the Rossendale Free Press.

Since my last blog I have been busy working for all five contracted clients and also fitted in a few ad hoc jobs and a trip to London.

I have produced February and March editions of the newsletter for Veterans In Communities as well as having stories in the press including one about Andy and how VIC has helped to change his life around - used by the Lancashire Telegraph and Rossendale Free Press.

I am in the process of compiling the latest JJO Journal and also obtained press coverage for a story about the company's youngest designer who won a national award. Well done Sophie - here's her story on the Lancashire Telegraph website.

As well as Bryony's story, Haslingden High School stories have also made the news including the talented trampolinists who have just becme British Champions. Other stories were about a media trip to America, the successful girls; football teams and players who also represent County and the lasting legacy of talented musician Matthew Densfield. All my stories are on the school website.

At Fearns Community Sports College the school has been in the press for the pastoral mentor planning a massive fundraising cycling trip the length of the United States and other stories including BBC School News Report Day and a Battlefields Trip are posted on the school website.

My third high school is Whitworth Community High where a story on talented dancer Amy was also tasted on the front page of the Rochdale Observer. Other school stories include book week and judo competitor Jake, who recently won two silver medals.

A new ad hoc client Glen Castings has just taken over manufacturing the luxury Jardine Leisure range of outdoor furniture and my story was used by the Rossendale Free Press and Lancashire Telegraph. International opera tenor Sean Ruane asked for help to promote a gig at the Royal Court Theatre and it was a sell out and Dansworks Dance Academy of Performing Arts held its annual show complete with dancing guests from Malta, the story made the Rossendale Free Press.

And all the while I have been writing a series of articles to promote the Hyndburn Business Awards, which will be presented in June.

A year has passed since I had my operation to remove my thyroid and although I still have a few niggling voice issues, things are getting better.

On April 4 it was also the 30th anniversary of my first day as a reporter on the Rossendale Free Press. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and worked with me over the years x
